PLEASE NOTE: This is a three-session course, on FRIDAYS, May 9th, 16th, and 23rd, 5:00 to 8:00 pm.. Please ONLY SIGN UP for the class HERE ON THE FIRST SESSION, and we will add you to all three sessions. OVERVIEW: Learn new techniques with oil pastels. We will use layering, under painting, and scraping down (also called sgraffio). We will also be using heavy pressure blending. Let's have some fun with these techniques and create your new beautiful masterpiece, in oil pastels. We'll be using a watercolor wash to finish our paintings. We will practice techniques first and then spend the rest of our time working on one finished painting. Additional Open Studio time is available to students (Wed 12 to 4, Sat 12 to 4) while actively enrolled in class, and up to 7 days following end of class at no additional charge. After that, a nominal $10/day/student will be charged, plus any materials. AGE MINIMUM: 16 years (All minors must be accompanied by an adult.) PRICE INCLUDES: All supplies will be furnished. Picture ideas and other resource materials will be available at the studio. STUDENTS SHOULD BRING: A protective cover-up or use a studio apron; an open mind; and a willingness to try new ideas. If you already own oil pastels and have favorite colors, you can certainly bring them with you. If you have a photo or picture you would like to adapt and put your spin on, by all means bring it to class.

PAYMENT POLICY: - Payment is due in full at the time of booking to guarantee your spot in any class. - Be sure to check the class description for any requirements, such as minimum age, prerequisites, and/or supplies that you need to bring with you to class. - Sign-ups close one calendar day prior to class to allow for instructor preparations, possible cancellation, etc. CANCELLATION/RE-SCHEDULE POLICY: - If a student cancels, Birch must be notified at least 24 hours prior to the class in order to give a full refund. If less than 24 hours, 50% will be refunded. If a student has an emergency cancellation and Birch is informed ASAP prior to class, student will receive a full credit towards a future class if some proof can be provided. - If the class is cancelled due to not enough sign-ups or an instructor emergency, students will be advised by phone or text ASAP, and all will receive a full refund. - No-call, no-shows for classes will not receive a refund OR credit. MISSING A SESSION OF A MULTI-SESSION CLASS: - If a class takes place over 2 or more sessions, it can be difficult to keep up with your project if you miss a session. Reach out to your instructor to see if there is an opportunity to join another class for the missed part, or if you can get assistance at an “Open Studio” time.
